A few weeks earlier, animators from the production team of Jujutsu Kaisen 2 came on to X(formerly known as Twitter) to express their dissatisfaction regarding the working conditions at studio MAPPA.
Due to this, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 episode release may see some hindrance.
After the undeniable success of the first season in 2020, the second season of the anime Jujutsu Kaisen began airing on July 6, 2023. Following the release of the anime, the members of the production team started showing criticism online for the grueling schedule for animating the episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen, sometimes even finishing hours before the airing of the episodes.
This has sparked frustration among team members, with some even calling for disbandment.
So this is what happened:
Things took a sudden turn when an anime industry expert, Shinjiro Egawa, told the MAPPA studio animators to dispose of their company cards before leaving work.
Further speaking on the issue, a director of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, shared his own thoughts and frustration on the work schedule at MAPPA.
Even a significant animator of Jujutsu Kaisen, Tsuchigami Itsuki, also expressed his distress regarding the grueling working conditions and schedule at MAPPA studio.
Another director for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Ookubo Shunsuke, posted a distressing image from the anime "Shirobako" which shows an animator in a life-threatening situation where Shirobako is an anime about the anime industry, shedding light on the intense schedules that animators have to endure.
What does this mean for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2?
The above-mentioned ongoing production challenges are unclear if they will affect the remainder of season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen. However, the primary concern revolves around Studio MAPPA’s brutal work environment, and prospects for improvement are unclear at the moment.
Animators often finish working on an episode days, if not hours, before the airing of the episode which ultimately has a great impact on the quality of the visuals of the anime. This may cause hindrance in the production of further episodes, in spite of the top-tier quality that has been maintained until now, unless the animators keep up with their present heavy workload until the finale of this season. A tweet from an animator supporting the above statement:
MAPPA has also faced criticism previously for its harsh working conditions about which you can read more here: What is going on at MAPPA?
In spite of facing numerous criticisms from its own production team and animators as well as its viewers, MAPPA still continues to put its employees through the harsh working environment.
Although this type of thing is not unheard of in the anime animation industry, MAPPA is trying to push its limits to a point where its employees are even talking about disbandment.

Personal Opinion:
I would rather wait.
Personally, I do not think that there is any point in rushing the production of an anime that demands excellent quality as well as a lot of time and effort.
To me, it is already astounding how the animators have maintained such exceptional quality in animating Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 despite having such rushed schedules and brutal working conditions.
It truly makes me wonder what kind of quality the anime will have if the production teams are put on a proper schedule and working conditions when they are producing the kind of quality we are seeing in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2.
