In the last few years, the world of anime has witnessed remarkable growth and popularity, with studios delivering exceptional content. One such studio that has been making waves in the industry is MAPPA Studio. With a string of successful anime series under its belt such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, Chainsaw Man and Vinland Saga, there has been ample curiosity regarding the working conditions at Mappa.
Recently, some users have took on to X(formerly knows as Twitter) to voice their discontentment about the working conditions of the animators at the studio and having to sign a confidentiality contract, also called NDA(Non-Disclosure Agreement), which prevents them from talking about the said working condition at MAPPA.Fans, after getting to know about this, got infuriated as much as they love the works of the studio. Given Japan's work culture, people knew that being under heavy workloads isn't uncommon. But MAPPA's recent move of making animators sign a confidentiality contract is where things took a turn for the studio.
There could be only one reason for making the animators sign the contract. Unimaginable working conditions. This is what one of the animators from MAPPA, who was a Key Animator on Chainsaw Man and is rumored to be working on the Shibuya Arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, tweeted:
Basically, he is saying that animators who are trying to build their resume, MAPPA is a good option whereas if they are looking for a studio where they want to do their best, they should avoid MAPPA. He also went on to say that MAPPA should improve the working conditions instead of making animators sign confidentiality contracts or NDAs.Supposedly another animator from MAPPA tweeted something along the lines like this which has now been deleted from X(formerly called Twitter)-
This seems like some of what to be what is going on at MAPPA studios. Seemingly earning profit in millions by exploiting workers to their full extent. Many has also compared this situation to the new anime called Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead where the MC was heavily exploited at the company he worked at. Although it does not sound good, the comparison is not so inaccurate.
Now, with the full support of fans for the animators, only time will tell if the working conditions will improve for the animators at MAPPA or not and the future of the studio.
Thank you for reading till the end. I hope this blog has been informative.
