Some Makoto Shinkai Films

Anyone who knows even a little bit about the world of anime, has surely, at some point, heard about atleast one film directed by Makoto Shinkai. Be it Your Name, Weathering with You, Suzume no Tojimari or any other. And that, is for good reasons. Makoto Shinkai's movies are a mesmerizing blend of romance, outstanding music and stunning animation which never fails to amaze the viewers.

In this blog, I will be mentioning and talking a little bit about the films directed by Makoto Shinkai, ranked in their respective order.

5. 5 Centimeters Per Second (2007)

5 Centimeters Per Second explores the reality of long-distance relationship between the life of two childhood friends,Takaki Toono and Akari Shinohara, who like each other, but the circumstances beyond their control pulls them away from each other. Takaki and Akari promises to each other to stay in contact but the progression of time makes them unable to do so. Holding on to their past memories when they were together, they hope that they will see each other again.

4.Suzume's Door-Locking (2022)

Suzume's Door Locking, also known as Suzume no Tojimari, follows the life of a young girl, Suzume who, on her way to her home, encounters a mysterious man, Souta, who is looking for abandoned areas. Out of curiosity, Suzume heads to the abandoned place near her house and on reaching, she finds a door in middle of it. On opening it, she finds herself in a mystical place which invites destruction to her own world. Thereafter, she begins her journey to lock all the doors in pursuit of preventing disasters.

3. Garden of Words (2013)

Garden of Words is a story about a high school boy, Takao Akizuki, who often skips school to head to a garden and sit there sketching designs. One day, while sketching, he meets a beautiful woman. On meeting her on the days he goes to the garden to sketch, repeatedly, he develops an affection to her. But soon, he realises the truth about her identity. Here, a relation is born out of pure love between two humans.

2. Weathering with You (2019)

Weathering with You explores the life of a high school boy, Hodaka, who ran away to Tokyo where there is no end to the rain showers. On struggling financially by himself, Hodaka gets a part-time job during which he meets a girl, Hina, who apparently has a divine power to call forth the Sun amidst the dreary clouds looming overhead in Tokyo. Their encounter turns out to be good oppurtunity where they can help people by bringing out the sun and getting some cash for it. But this divine power also has some dreadful consequences to it. Hodaka will try his best to prevent it.

1. Your Name (2016)

Your Name, also known as Kimi no na wa, is a story of a boy and a girl, Taki and Mitsuha, who swap bodies in their dreams. Through numerous interactions with each other, by the swapping of their bodies, they develop an affection towards each other. But fate has something else planned for them. Something that will destroy their connection forever. And something that they must overcome to be able to meet each other in reality. So Taki and Mitsuha embarks on a journey to overcome their dreadful fate for a day they will be waiting for. You can find the description for this movie in detail here.
